PROGRAMMES AND PARALEGAL SERVICES
Community paralegals under the National legal Aid Clinic for Women, are stationed in various community across the country. They operate as an extension of the organisation by bridging the gap between the community and the organisation including its partner organisation that work together to provide legal based interventions at different levels. The main task for NLACW’s community paralegals is to provide interventions that fall within primary legal Aid service Delivery namely;
Legal Information: Using content developed by NLACW, Community paralegals are able to share legal information with community members which helps them to know their rights and to make informed decisions on their own.
Legal Education: Using content developed by NLACW. Community paralegals are able to participate in the provision of legal education within their communities under supervision of the organisation. This helps in enhancing levels of awareness of human rights and the law.
Community mobilisation: Community paralegals play a vital role in mobilising communities for purposes of legal information and education.
Referrals (Community: paralegals also help in sieving cases at community level and referring such to necessary institutions for targeted interventions. Such referrals help community members in receiving timely support
Accompaniment of clients: Where necessary, Community paralegals also help with accompanying clients to organisation whose physical location the client may not know.
Orientation: Community paralegals also help in orienting clients about operations of targeted institutions for purposes of understanding the kind of services derived from such institutions.
Simple Mediations: Community paralegals also conduct mediations that are less complicated in character. This helps clients to reach consensus on a number of their disagreements quickly while maintaining their good relations which otherwise may be strained if matters escalate to more formal sittings.
